Here is our problem.
We all have dev studio installed on our systems. When we make changes to any of our programs, and then release them, we have no idea which windows DLLs are required to run them. We periodicly run a program that shows those dependancies (http://www.dependencywalker.com), and if a new DLL shows up, we include it in the list. As far as I know, the following list of DLLs has not changed since Comet 2004....

Mfc71.Dll
Msvbvm60.Dll
Msvcirt.Dll
Msvcp60.Dll
Msvcp70.Dll
Msvcp71.Dll
Msvcr70.Dll

Microsoft apparently has been aware of this problem, since recently they have abandoned the DLL approach and now require the .NET framework to be installed. (I may be wrong about this ;-)
