First of all CometAnywhere allows you to "filter" who is allowed to connect. I beleive you can select to restrict "local" users or not. Once the identification is ON, no non-authorized user can connect.

Second, ever heard of a firewall ? It be a corporate or the Window's machine own. You can control access to individual ressources and open/block individual ports with subnets. This would easily allow one administrator to control who's allowed and who's not. Beauty of the corporate firewall is that you can also use port re-direction to more effectively "hide" your ports. You can also use port re-direction to allow multiple hosts on a single IP address, each using a different port number.
