When an application asks Windows for a font, It specifies what it wants, and windows chooses the closest font in its collection on the machine that fits those specifications.
I suspect that the ariel font has been deleted somehow.
A re-install of windows may be warranted. In control panel, select fonts and click on arial. You should be able to see that font. If not you might click file/install new font and point to a font you have copied from another machine.
