After receiving Barb's fix for the keybild bug outlined below, I've run tests and can make the following suggestion. When creating Extended Keyed files I recommend creating a file layout with a filler
field in the first 10 bytes of the record. The reason for this is to
provide the ability to "resurrect" a deleted record. We've all had
that happen - operator calls up and wants to get A/R comments back, she deleted them for account 5421 and really wanted to delete them for 5412. Can she get them back? Well, yes if they have backup tapes and somebody who can retrieve the file. If it's an extended keyed file and the first 10 bytes of the record are filler, then the
Comet DELETE has overwritten the first 10 bytes that we don't care about with characters indicating the delete. Simply get users off the system, Q option 13 the file and change it to a Sequential file
with the same record length and then do a keybild to a new file name.
Pull out your "resurrected" deleted record and you're a hero. Works
like a charm. Tom.
