Have you tried it with other than a pdf printer? Internally, for non-remote printers, there's no knowledge of foreground/background, so it's difficult for me to understand how this could happen. If you start COSP (before starting your print job) from a Windows shortcut with a /DEBUG command line option, you should get a window that will show what fonts are being sent to the printer. You can copy the output to a file and send it to me if you are unable to make sense of it.
