The MID instruction

It seems as though the MID() instruction was broken sometime ago. This goes back as far as 2003! I think it returns some non-unique value that may be duplicated for many plug numbers.

1. Does anyone actually use MID()?

2. If I change it to return the actual plug number would anyone mind?
