Grant's accidental experiment with mixing type "N" dirs with type "C" dirs on the same server inspired us to do some similar testing. While Grant's use was limited to text and obj files, we jumped right in to keyed files.

We found several problems including Comet hangs and E99s. The version of the file server made no difference. We tested versions from 6.11 back to 5.08 with the same results. Mixing directory types has not produced expected results for quite some time.

If you have a reason to use type "N" dirs, they must be limited to servers that do not contain any dirs managed by CFAM.
