i use openoffice on occasion, but the company i'm with (and most others, i'd imagine) are fairly standardized on microsoft.
if the document formats are openly published, i'm sure openoffice will be able to handle them. even if they're not openly published, i'm sure openoffice will handle them -- it'll just take a little longer. :)
