Yes, you are correct, I want to be able to use .csv files as input.
I don't think you need the field attributes, all you need are the headings and the ability to do the read into an array then cross referance the field heading with the item in the array.
As I stated in the original post this should be a function in MTB that does a .csv read and populates the array.
As far as numeric fields go, just put all fields in a string but allow numeric functions to be done on the field ie: NUM(field(4),ERR) and return non-numeric input error if ERR <> 0.
