I've been complaining about the exact same thing for awhile now. Maybe you've noticed the ongoing "TEMP" issue -- several things are written to the system TEMP (usually \windows\temp), which is another security issue for non-privileged domain users.
Comet is one of the last glaring offenders on our network; I get to remove spyware & all sorts of "smiley toolbar" adware, because I'm forced to run all the users as local admins due to Comet.
What it boils down to, in my mind, is that Comet just isn't "enterprise" ready. If it'll ever get there remains to be seen. (Though I certainly hope it does.)
I'm guessing the Comet developers aren't in a domain environment, or this would've been fixed a long time ago.
