OK, machine physically restarted, definitely all "c" directories, nothing untoward in qerrlog.
When it updates a batch and writes the record to this file it also updates the customer master file with the adjusted balance of his account. This record was also not written back to the disk. I will trawl through other applications and see if anything was written to the disk on that Monday.
