I was having multiple occurances of 99/74 errors on an account that we recently upgraded to 2007 for 2005. It appears that 99/74 is a timeout error. We discovered that the IT manager had installed CA Central Security on all workstations. Once we disabled CA Central, the errors have gone away. We tried to change the options to omit scanning of the Comet folders which worked until the pc was restarted and it began scanning again.
You might check to see if you have a virus scanner on the pc in question.
