I tried to use #files, but the key structure was too difficult for me to use. My #files is tiny anyway.
So, I revamped the program to display 2 combo boxes. The first one I plucked from my win18 demo program and it lets the user select a DAB.
This selection feeds into the other combo box which uses the typing technique we are discussing. The user can type characters into the edit part of the combo box and the program will display 25 file names starting with those characters.
I think this is close enough to what you had in mind.

I think you may have out of date wdl, dlg and dmw downloads. I included a zip file containing the object as well as the source for my combo program. See if the object works for you. I know you will figure out how to operate the program given a couple of minutes.
