Thanks for the information. I am still befudled concerning the HP on the jetdirect. I cannot use a path like \\ServerName\printername since it is not attached to SeverName. It does not work with that path. If it set it to the default priter and configure it in Comet's ini file like this --- Printer = LP1,W,N,,*,,\\HP LaserJet 4100 PCL 6; --- it works.
I also can get the MS Document image writer to work OK.
Now the burning issue is getting standard Qantel wide reports to print in compressed mode on the printer. I hav eused Comet's printer font setup on the File menu, but it does not work consistently. For example, it does not work on Comet CED listings. It does seem to work for customer listings and other application reports, but it is apparently necessary to set it each time you are ready to print. Do I have to modify all the print programs that currently use 132 column "green bar" paper to send PCL control codes tot he HP? I tried setting the font on the printer menu, but the driver apparently overrides the menu setting. Can't find out how to change the driver defaults permanently.
I'm using an Epson 2090 for invoices and labels, and it is working just fine.
BTW, I have not lived in the SD area; but I spent a while working for Homes.com and they have an SD office I visited a couple of times.
