Grant may have the same situation as yours. Did you notice whether the light is on? Could this be a power management issue?
Intermittent problems are the worst! The security server checks for the plug 10 times and waits 30 seconds per time. It seems to me that the driver for the plug or the USB lower level drivers may be in trouble. Make sure you have the latest Marx drivers. They are usually obtained via windows update.
On Windows XP if you go to control panel/system/device manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers/CBUSB Ver 2.0/Properties/driver, You should see Driver Version 2.0.7.214 date 2/14/2007.
