Excel too smart for my own good

I have a client who created an .csv file using viewmgr. One of the fields selected is vendor part number. The field has some part numbers using a format similar to 1-6066 (to be specific). Excel is taking any vendor part with this format and converts it to a date (in this case Jan-66). If I click on this field and try to change the format to either GENERAL or TEXT, I get a series of results (none of which are correct). When I select TEXT, I get '1521603'. When I select GENERAL, I get '24108'. Other than reformatting the field that is being output to the .csv file, does anyone know a way that when the column says '1-6066', it displays '1-6066' in EXCEL?
