Someone once told me that DHCP servers based on windows disconnect clients when renewing address leases. DHCP servers based on Linux (like firewalls, linksys etc.) keep connections alive when renewing a lease if the ip address does not change.

I have not personally verified this, but it may be the root of your problem.
