Dear Mr. Guerber;
I don't know what you had in mind when you developed the Alias. I suspect your objective was a compact, easy to use nickname for long, complicated Windows path names.
I just realized that the Alias is ALSO a relative tool. Speaking "C" code, IT'S A POINTER. I need to get a file stored on another server in my customer's office. I can't code the address of this file in my program because I don't have a second server in my office. In the age of Qantel I would have put the address in a Z1 record with the appropriate path in my system and in the customer's Z1 file.
Alias makes that unnecessary.
Thanks.
