QSPOOL

Is DocMgr good enough to replace QSPOOL? Apparently, SSI is planning to retire QSPOOL in favor of DocMgr.

I've been discussing my concerns about the transition with Barbara and though I'd open up the discussion to the forum.

Most customers have some understanding of the value of PDF's. Convincing them to pay $50/user for pdfFactory is a little tougher when they can pick one of a googol of free ones. I'll have to press the auto archiving and PDF emailing argument :)

Some of my customers use QSPOOL for archiving reports. One customer has 20k reports going back 2 years. Off line, they have QSPOOL reports going back 5+ years beyond that. I need a way to get those reports out of QSPOOL and into DocMgr and still maintain the Program Name, original Date/Time, and maybe SpoolMessage as part of the PDF's name. To do that QSPOOL needs a new way of naming the PDF files it creates.

Instead of "QSPOOL2 (T00) ......", the file name would be "NR-2009-07-13-07:43.PDF".

This would give me the ability to set up a forever archive on the customer's server and let DocMgr be used for "recent" reports. I'd also need to do billable program changes :)

And there's a second QSPOOL feature that I'd need to replicate. One customer uses the "Run forever" option over CometAnywhere. S12 has been assigned to the remote location. When the clerk there comes in, she fires up QSPOOL and begins despooling all the reports in the queue. QSPOOL2 remains in background and prints any new reports she or anyone in the company may send to S12.
