Keith, from what I have read in the past, Mater Browser (not to be confused with IE) elections normally take place when computers are first turned on (first five minutes). This is at the lan networking level. There are pre-determined 'pecking orders' based on Operating systems, system speeds and what ever MS decides to include in the mash. There is tonnes of stuff on the net regarding the subject matter. At some point, you'll read about ARPA traffic (in DOS, type in ARP /a) and you'll get the details from your computer. Basically this is the type of traffic that would be exchanged between master browser and peon pc's. Also, any systems (ISP included) that use DHCP servers that provide IP addresses will issue out broadcast messages. At the end of the day, I really don't think that this type of network traffic will affect a local LAN. I typically work with 2-30 pc networks in general. Maybe larger systems work different. My 'reading' of the Master Browser subject is from many years ago (before Xp) - back in the Windows 3.x and 9x days.

Bruno...
