Currently installing a NAS on my largest account. Was a big learn curve. The way I learn is through endless repetition. Using ROBO is different than XCOPY. Have also learned there are "lots" of file copy utilities for sale out there. Copying 500 Gig and keeping track of time. Then erasing the backup and starting again after I absorb results. ROBO is no speed demon at first use. 6 meg files copy at the same speed as "0" byte files. About 1 second. Have lots of HUGE files?? Do a ROBO. Have lots of tiny files?? Do a XCOPY. Back to NAS. If using ROBO, the first backup will take forever so schedule Friday at 5:00 pm. And you might have to go back and check 9:00 pm Sunday so there are no situations come Monday. After the first backup ROBO will not copy files that have not changed based on size and time stamps. Lots of options concerning this. Installer/User beware!! You gotta read and do the research. So that's where the speed comes from using ROBO. All those tiny OBJ's, Codes, Source won't get copied unless they change. At client's site, that could be 80% of all files. My trials went from almost 3 days (the first time) to 1 hour (the second time). Using tape backups have a Monday, Tuesday,...,Friday backup scheme that rotates. Will attempt same procedural results using NAS automatically with no user intervention since you can use this as a service (my fingers crossed). Client's employee's HATE doing and being responsible for backups. They point the fingers when disaster occurs and they're all pointing at me! Want to be a hero? Come up with backup alternative plan B. Still have to dream up a plan C. A trilogy plan. Working on plan B got my first in-house NAS 6 weeks ago and I'm seeing this already? BTW call my NAS devices NS1, NS2, NS3, etc. You know why. Thinking future. NS1-Monday, NS2-Tuesday, yada, yada, yada!! Just starting to think/plan at the TERA level. Yo! Anyone have a plan C? Internet off-site with ROBO?? Make your own cloud. I'm thinking plan A, B, C all managed/ran simultaneously.
