The object's version number is stored in the object file itself. In Comet16 objects only 8 bytes was allocated for this because way back when, source files were CED keyed files by convention. 8 characters was all that was needed. In Comet32 objects the source file name in the object file is 12 characters. The dir name of the source file is also stored but currently no utility has been enhanced to display it. It's on one of the Comet32 to-do lists.
