Jim:

Finally got a explantion of the step by step process that leads to the "jumping" account.

The code for a set of related programs includes a "Revolver" feature. It allows the user to go from program to program without going thru the menu system and reentering the account number. Probably very cool on a VT3 in 1980 :) Each of the programs uses a control record keyed by TERM$ in the Z1 file. See screen shot.

Yesterday, one user started Comet and went into the CA program it immediately locked up in what I now know is an E33/Again loop. The user went to their second screen and ran CA there. It also locked up with the E33/Again loop. And on to their third screen and CA. A PICNIC or ID10T situation.

I did a screen dump of the Z1 file and saw a control record with a key of "509". But there is no T509. Highest is T505, a CometAnywhere session that wasn't in use. There is a P509. It's the last partition on the CAW Host and the highest partition in the whole configuration.

Apparently, almost every user running CA was reading the "509" record instead of their TERM$ record and falling into the E33/Again loop. Once the other user released the record, session 1 would get the account. When the user released the record, session 2 would get the account, etc. The account would "jump" from session to session as the user described.

Fixes. Shotgun approach.

1) checked the INI and rebuilt the CFG files. Deleted any old CFG's.

2) recompiled CA and added my more "modern" E33 code.

3) this moring updated Comet from 2009.405 to 2009.407. Updated REL and UTL to latest.

4) I had run one of Brian's pre 9.06 versions on this customer for testing. I think I later reinstalled 9.05.

Of the "Revolver" set of programs, only CA did this. CA only uses TERM$ as a key in INQUIRE and WRITE statements.

As of this morning, Z1 is showing Tnn records and no "509" record. No complaints so far.
