OK, I've been critical, now let's try constructive.
The Excel toolbar gets by with just two symbols for what we call an edit mask: $ and , That's it - that's all she wrote.
Why can't we? Why can't the Reporter do the same thing? I'm not talking QB/MTB/IB; the Reporter.
The Reporter "knows" field lengths. It deals with fields lengths -vs- column headings -vs- total fields. It "knows" the fractional part.
Why then do I have to count on my fingers and toes to setup an editmask? (Bear in mind that if I do it wrong I get slammed at EXECUTION time, at EXECUTION time!)
I'll bet those two "masks" would handle 80% to 90% of the edit masks used in Comet reports. And so very, very easy. Easy to understand and so easy to code.
I'd love some comments. If you agree comment here. Tell BB, tell Jim. To the ramparts. Make your voices heard.
