Because of the nature of the internet and tcp/ip in general, the lag time produced by a polling protocol would potentially slow things down tremendously.
I must ask: In the larger picture, what are you trying to do here? Do you want to have some sort of time limit within which a user can transmit an answer so as to not lock up a record or something? If that is the case, I am with you 100%. I have wanted some sort of timed input for several years now. It was discussed in at least one developer meeting.
I think this could be very powerful.
Is there something else I am missing here?
