I wrote a program that helped transfer updated #FILES from my shop to my customer's. I think it was even back in the Q days. I was motivated by the blazing speed of *REMOTE coupled with the high cost of long distance telephone.
I created an intermediate file like the one Grant and Barbara describe, but of course it was keyed.
And the biggest issue I had to deal with was deleted records in the new file.
When you copy a "real" file the system erases the original and replaces it with the new version. When you send a new #FILES you could do the same thing; delete all records from the old and replace them with the new. I elected to create a delete-type transaction. Seems BB did the same.
Grant, would you prefer deleting all the old records first??
