Please don't misunderstand my intention... the snide remark about SINGER was to place this kind of problem in time... literally, 3 decades ago...

I did use QTILITY/MAINT to change the one character from @22@ (") to @20@ (space) and when I did the Write, it reverted to the double quote

I never re-ran the program because I couldn't change the @22@ to @20@... so I was confident it would fail

when I get a chance, I'll try copying the entire file.
