One of the action items I heard at the meeting was the ability to use MAPI to send email from the email printer.
I am investigating, and I have found that MAPI will not work with Gmail, and it is difficult to make it work with Thunderbird. The suggestion was to use SMTP and that is what we are using now.
My questions are, Why use MAPI?
It may be only really compatible with outlook and outlook express. I gave up on those products several years ago.
Should I instead look into the possibility of interfacing directly with Gmail and using its address book etc?
The disadvantage of mapi is that it relies on whatever mail server is resident on the user's machine. If it is not MAPI capable, the email will fail.
Maybe we should ask what features are needed that the current email printer does not provide.
Use of the user's address book?
Receipt/delivery status?
...
I am confused and need guidance on this.
Thanks,
Jim
