The key point is that 32 bit O/S's like XP, Vista, Win7 have a feature called "Windows on Windows" aka WOW that will run 16 bit apps. The 64bit O/S's have a verson of WOW that allows 32 bit apps to run. BUT NOT 16BIT!!! Look up "wowexec.exe" at MSFT if you want a better expanation.
All of Comet's server software is 32 bit and can be run on either 32 or 64 bit O/S's.
But, one of the major pieces of Comet Workstation has been 16bit since the beginning. That's why Comet16 must run on a 32bit O/S. It's too late to go back to DOS 6 or Win 3.11 :)
At some point, April 2011 (my guess), Comet32 will become the only supported version of Comet. As developer/dealers we have to be sure our programs meet Comet32 standards (no Image and no QIC for instance).
