Someone wrote an entire version of Linux in Javascript. You see the terminal window in your browser window, but that's just one part -- it's actually an entire function version of Linux written in Javascript and executed in the browser. (Basically, he took a version of Linux compiled for the X86 processor and wrote an X86 emulator that steps through the machine code. Crazy.) The terminal is another piece of Javascript that processes what comes out of the emulated serial port in the "machine."
