if you look around on the guy's site, he was also the original author of ffmpeg (which is now pretty much the defacto standard for cross platform multimedia encoding/decoding/playback/etc) and qemu, which emulates x86/powerpc/arm/sparc (and other) processors -- an alternative to vmware/etc.
this guy is a serious coder. and the best part is: everything he does is released free/open source, so the rest of world gets to benefit from it.
