Clients pc's are XP and 5 years old. Some older and still using Windows 2000. Recently had a 5 year old pc go south. It used SATA 1 tech. Win/XP was reporting disc errors. Thought it might be malware so I did a Kapersky 10, boots Linux from CD to do a scan on the C: drive. Found 7 major problems. Thought I was out of the woods. Nooo! XP wouldn't boot. Tried a XP CD fix and numerous DLL files wouldn't load (maybe 10 or so). XP loaded but still kept re-booting itself endlessly. So maybe the disc drive is bad!! Went to Staples and bought the most cheap Sata hard drive. $65 for a 500 Gig drive. Wow! Sounds like a good deal. Here's the problem. Trying to keep older XP pc's running on the cheap? New cheap drive is SATA 2 which is incompatible with SATA 1. Remember MASTER/SLAVE stuff. Hook 5/6 and you're on the go?? Doesn't work. New internal devices starting to not work with older pc's. Solution? Screw this. Talked with CEO. Plan/develope 64-bit software/hardware plan starting on Monday. Clients have older and new OFFICE suites from MS (2007) and Corel's X3. So problem at corp level is migrating 32 software/hardware to 64 at minimal cost (keeping in mind past investments). If a device has no 64 driver, forget it. Want to keep some of that investment, morph some 32 pc's with 64 network. Here I go!! Will go very slow with Comet32. I will test before installing LIVE version! I'll remove the IMAGE stuff.
