In the past, if I wanted to access a printer on a workstation from another workstation, I would share the printer and then use then assign an LPx number to the unc name of the shared printer (ie: \\computername\sharename). I just tried this on a windows 7 machine. I found the printer that is installed on the windows 7 machine and shared it. I then went into the sysgen and set up my LPx to the unc name as previously defined. It did not work. I then went to the pull down menu in comet that lists all the accessed printers and discovered that the share name of the printer was the \\computer name\printer icon name on the windows 7 machine. Not the shared name. Once I changed the sysgen to this new name, comet worked fine. Is the share name even necessary any more when accessing printers on workstations from other workstations?
