Comet THROUGH the Internet

Background: Customer has servers in three cities -- call them B, W and G. He wants everyone, and anyone, in any location to be able to access data in any other location. And CometAnywhere is currently not on the table.
The distance from B to W is 114 miles, B to G is 33 and as G is not between B & W, the distance from G to W is 101 miles.
Questions:
1) is this possible? How do we setup the INI? Do we need to open some ports?

2) What kind of performance hit can we expect dragging files and index records over the net at typical Internet speeds?

3) How can I minimize errors and confusion? We have talked about different wallpaper on different menus. Of course, if you start OE, go out to lunch, you can easily forget which server you are connected to when you return.
