Comet Explorer uses a special call to the file server to speed up the display of files, called Batch Fstat. This is the only time I have heard of this particular behavior. Is this your Citrix installation? The executables involved in this process are Comet explorer, Cfam, CfamNetServe, and CfileServe. What versions are you running? Perhaps the logs in the Comet Services logs folder will help.
