That was what I am used to. The problem was that the (cr) at the end of the format statement had the effect of an (LF). Anyhow, now that I discovered what was happening, I just went thru the program (one I did not write, but was making changes to) and removed the (CR) at the end of the format statements in question. As far as the 'big bucks' - OUCH. Marc
