You can't put everything to the right of the equal sign in a variable because CONTROL is a statement not a data value. You should be able to put the CONNECT string (stuff to the right of the comma) in a variable I think:

COMMAND$ = "CONNECT dbname dbpath username password"
result$=Control(SqlLun, COMMAND$)
