difference in processing between .CSV and .txt

was processing a delimited file ("~") and had the following unexpected result:

when the extension was .TXT:

record counts exactly matched the number of lines
record contents displayed as blanks (maybe they were "@00@"... dunno)

anyway, when I renamed to .CSV and re-ran, all came out OK

my only guess is that something strange happened in QDIR, and when I renamed the input file, the QDIR had a new entry in it and all worked well with untrampled-upon data.

does it make sense to delete QDIR (and all its little friends) and try it all over again.

Thanx.

Bob "A"
