I should know soon. Customer will probably go ahead with either a DELL MD3220i or IBM SD3425 with 16x300GB 10K SAS-6 in Raid-5 with 2 hot spares. It looks like both of these are the same re-branded, re-boxed boxes.
Comet will be executed from a Dual Xeon 3.2GHZ system, storage will use VM machines (Dual Quad-Core with 16GB RAM) on ProxMox running OpenFiler and a mix of Windows servers and Ubuntu servers.
As for SSD, I'm not sure yet. It is very pricey and I tought I read that SSD drives a limited number of read/write cycle. We all know Comet is IO extensive.
Each file can be a maximum of 1MB in length Uploaded files will be purged from the server on a regular basis.
