Storm gone - server down

I did a managed shutdown of my Windows 2003 server on Sunday. We finally got power back this morning and my server won't come back up.

The server dates from 2006 so I have no problem replacing it.

My question is what flavor of windows server is working well for you? Anything I need to look out for? What type of backup solution is working for you?
