Actually, there may be something you can do. Although it was not intended for this purpose, the registry does contain a value that is the last printer the user entered in the Windows printer selection dialog. Cosp uses that value to initialize the default for that dialog next time it is invoked.

You can use access it by using a registry mnemonic:

Print ("USER", "Signature Systems\Comet Print Manager\Settings", "Last User Printer")
