no.. the # is being used to pass BACK status information from the ENTERed program

so.. I have to populate the # buffer in the statement just before the EXIT in the ENTERed program, and then retrieve it back in the ENTERing program in the first statement after the ENTER statement

if the archive process uses the # buffer, then there's no way to make this work

oh well...... to paraphrase the guy in "JAWS".... "gotta get a different boat" :)
