Interesting... "feature"?? Here's what's going on. Throughout IB commas are optional. Since there's no operator following "HIST$" the compiler gives you the benefit of the doubt and assumes you meant to put a comma there and tries to treat JDESC$ as an editmask. Of course an editmask on a string doesn't necessarily make any sense so you're not getting any output from JDESC$.
