So you're saying you had something like this:
MyFormat: format a$;b$;x
and when you tried MyString$ = PutFormat(MyFormat) it didn't include x?

PutFormat should "write" the format to the string the same as it would write it to a file or output device. Send me the section of your program (including declarations) so I can see what you're seeing.
