Strange Comet startup...>

I'm attached to an end-user PC running on a stable network. Version is 471 13.00 Yes, I know it's old and I may upgrade them this weekend. Problem is a specific user PC had some kind of network issue this morning. Since then they can't run Comet. Launch the icon and a text dialog box comes up saying that all the Comet executables can't be found on P:\comet\cfam.exe plus all the other files. SYSGEN is to UNC pathnames. Files are all there. When I change the shortcut to run cosw.exe instead of comet.exe then Comet does start up. Anybody know what the issue is?
