I live in North Carolina now. NC is an open-carry and shall-issue state. Open carry means that a firearm can be in your possession as long as it is in open view and plain sight. I've been in the pharmacy waiting on line and had a local walk in with a holstered automatic on his belt. Shall-issue means that as long as you're not prohibited from owning a firearm you can take a two-hour course, pay your $100 and get a concealed-carry permit. This allows you to carry a firearm in a shoulder holster or in a purse.
The NRA has won this battle. There are simply not enough rational people in enough places to make any difference. Add to that the fact that there has been no functional federal government for the past eight years and things do start to look very bleak. I don't think I have the assets to go fully expat, so we'll probably just go with the flow. It is extremely depressing. Watching what's going on in this country is like reading Lord of the Flies.
