Tom:

When your CA client clicks on "Directories" on the QMONITOR screen, the path to the TMP folder will be the path to the host's TMP folder. This is different from the path to CATEMP on the client. If you do the same thing on the CA host, you should see the same path for TMP. Is that correct?

We have a machine here where the user name is Administrator. It uses the short name for CATEMP and the full folder name for CATOOLS and it works correctly so I'm not sure the length of the name is your problem. Did you specify $(CATEMP) as the destination folder for the PDF printer? If the printer is called "Comet PDF" you can verify this by running CometPDF.exe in the Comet folder. It maintains a file called settings.ini that you'll find in a folder with a name such as c:\users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\PDF Writer\Comet PDF Also did you verify the CATEMP path from the client by clicking on Edit->Directory Aliases from the CA client session window?
