In response to requests for a "Print to file" checkbox on the '?' printer selection dialog, I did some research to find out what was involved. There are two kinds of basic printer dialogs. The first is the "Print" dialog which shows a list of printers and gives the ability to change the print range, # of copies and allows output to a disk file. The second dialog (what Comet uses) is the "Print Setup" dialog which shows the same printer list, paper selection and portrait/landscape mode selection. It does not offer a "Print to file" option. What I'd like to do is to change the default '?' printer to use the "Print" version of the dialog (this is normally what you'd see in other applications). I also propose that the "Print to file" checkbox in the "Print" dialog be disabled by default and enabled by configuring the printer name as "?F". For those installations that want to continue using the "Print Setup" version, they'd simply need to change their configuration to specify "?S" (as in setup).
