Here's the story on KEY... KEY is a very fast function. When the file is opened or a read or write is done, the value of the next key is saved. Thus, when you issue KEY, there is no searching to be done. The value that was saved is returned. This means, of course, that unless you have locked the file, someone may have deleted that key or inserted a new one between the one you last accessed and the key value saved for you.
