I suppose that even if KEY worked as I had imagined, there was always the chance that the record would get deleted before the program got to the INQUIRE. The way KEY actually works just opens that window a little wider.
Typically, I don't have an EXCP on the INQUIRE following a KEY. I've always thought that an E32 might be an indication of a file or hardware problem that I didn't want to miss.
Doesn't seem to be a problem in the real world.
